Overscaig House Hotel Overscaig House Hotel, North Highlands, Scotland

Situated in one of the last great wilderness areas of Europe and on the edge of Scotland's first UNESCO-endorsed European Geoparks, The Overscaig House Hotel enjoys a magnificent south facing location beside Loch Shin in North-West Sutherland.

This is an area of isolated mountains of the world's most ancient rock and boasts the highest cliffs (900ft/270m) in mainland Britain at Cape Wrath and the highest waterfall, Eas-coul-Aulin (600ft/180m) which is only 9 miles from the hotel as the crow flies.

Local AreaIt is also an area with remarkable history and archaeology from the late Bronze Age, through the Picts and the Vikings to the relatively recent 'clearances' when crofters were displaced for more profitable sheep farming.

In addition, today's visitors can enjoy a remarkable range of out door pursuits throughout the area, from golf and sailing to hill-walking and climbing as well as the popular fishing and shooting.

For some fantastic views of this area go to our "How to find us" page and use the Google Streetmap viewer. We think these views were captured by Google in early May 2009 - the sun was shining!

The gateway to this beautiful part of Scotland is the village of Lairg, which is at the south eatern end of Loch Shin. Find out more from the Discover Sutherland web-site.
